Brief Description of Duties

The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is currently in need of responsible individuals to fill the postdoctoral positions for a federally funded research and education center. Our newly started Center of Nanotechnology Research and Education (CNRE) seeks postdoctoral scholars to assist in multiple center activities. CNRE provides opportunities to work in exciting and high-impact research fields such as nanoscale electronics, spintronics, solar cells, and metamaterials. Successful candidates will be supervised by experienced and internationally renowned faculty advisors. Postdoctoral candidates may have the opportunity to work in collaborations and interface with industrial partners and, hence, build their network for career advancement. This position is available in Prof. Pawan Tyagi’s group at UDC.

This position is primarily a temporary/training position in which the incumbent plays a substantive role in planning and conducting research by using quantitative and qualitative methods to collect, analyze, and report data activities. In collaboration with the principal investigator, this role will involve participating in the planning of independent research, analyzing, and interpreting data, publishing results, representing the University at conferences and meetings, and developing new theories and methodologies. This position may also help the Principal Investigator to lead and direct the work of other research staff. This role performs work under the supervision of experienced researchers.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A successful postdoctoral scholar is responsible for:

  • Conducting high quality research in the area of interest;
  • Working closely with graduate and undergraduate students to contribute to joint projects;
  • Participating in teaching and outreach activities and programs;
  • Presenting and publishing research findings at conferences and in peer reviewed publications;
  • Preparing progress reports for the funding sources;
  • Seeking external funding to support and expand research activities to enhance the prestige and visibility of the University and to initiate research projects with government, private sector and the community;

  • Doctoral degree in the related field.
  • Eligible to work legally in the USA.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Exemplary problem-solving skills: ability to work independently as well as with teams.
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication.
