Brief Description of Duties
The University of the District of Columbia's College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to serve as the College and Community Recruitment and Engagement Specialist. This position plays a crucial role in developing and fostering meaningful relationships with college prospects and participants and developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance the college's programs. The position will report to the Office of the Dean.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

 

1. Community Engagement:

  • Organize and facilitate community forums, events, and workshops to promote dialogue and knowledge sharing.
  • Lead major, multiphase public engagement processes allowing community input on plans, policies, and programs.
  • Research demographics, stakeholders, and opportunities for reaching affected populations.
  • Compile and summarize community input for decision-makers.
  • Develop and deliver multi-mode communications tailored to different audiences.
  • Coordinate responses to public and stakeholder comments using customer relationship management software.
  • Represent the college in internal and external meetings, conferences, and events.

 

2. Student Recruitment and Engagement:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs for student recruitment and engagement.
  • Work closely with students to understand their needs, aspirations, and barriers to success.
  • Coordinate internships, co-op experiences, and career development opportunities.
  • Guide prospective students and families through the recruitment and enrollment process.
  • Provide guidance on financial aid, scholarships, and enrollment procedures.
  • Maintain databases and records related to recruitment activities.
  • Participate in relevant events and actively promote the institution at various venues.
  • Provide tours of campus facilities and support on-campus events.

 

3. Logistics and Communication:

  • Maintain project calendars and schedule outreach activities and events.
  • Coordinate staffing for events and prepare staff for participation in recruitment activities.
  • Draft agendas, take notes, and communicate with members through accessible formats.
  • Manage travel schedules for school visits, meetings, and events.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations such as FERPA and TCPA.
  • Execute approximately 25% of job responsibilities in a climate-controlled setting and the remainder on the road or in various venues.

Minimum Job Requirements
 

§ Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

§ Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in student recruitment, enrollment, and engagement or equivalent experience in sales or recruitment.

§ Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with student recruitment, admissions, records, and information.

§ Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through creative reasoning and logic.

§ Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials.

§ Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, and members.

             §    Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply data collection and analysis software.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union):
This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME local 2087 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.


Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
