Brief Description of Duties
The Assistant Director in the Center for Urban Resilience, Innovation and Infrastructure (CURII) will report to the Director. The incumbent will support the planning, implementation, coordination, and performance of programs within the Center. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the Director and other stakeholders to manage day-to-day operations, support program development, assessment, and ensure the successful execution of Urban Resilience, Innovation, and Infrastructure initiatives. This role involves supporting the Director in overseeing staff, managing projects, fostering partnerships, and ensuring continuous improvement of programs aligned with the college’s mission and objectives. The Assistant Director must demonstrate strong communication skills, work well under pressure, and be committed to supporting a diverse and collaborative environment within the Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in Program Supervision and Staff Management
Support the Director in supervising and managing staff and interns, allocating work responsibilities, and ensuring that all program units within the Center operate effectively and efficiently.
- Collaboration and Coordination
Work closely with the Director, Associate Deans, and other stakeholders to support the establishment of strategic partnerships at local, regional, national, and international levels.
- Support Program Evaluation and Improvement
Assist in the evaluation and improvement of Center programs by conducting assessments and providing recommendations for enhancing program impact and effectiveness.
- Assist in Planning and Reporting
Aid in the preparation of the Plan of Work and updates as required by sponsoring agencies. Help coordinate the collection and analysis of program data for project reviews and reporting.
- Internal and External Communication
Assist in the communication of program goals, outcomes, and implementation strategies to CAUSES staff, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
Support the Director in fostering cross-discipline, university-wide involvement in academic, research, and student experiential learning initiatives.
- Program Management and Continuous Improvement
Help oversee day-to-day program management, ensuring high standards of execution and alignment with the mission of CAUSES. Contribute to the continuous improvement of all Center programs.
- Performance Management Support
Assist in managing the performance evaluation process for all staff in the Center, ensuring goals are met, and providing feedback for professional development.
- Represent the Center in Meetings
Represent the Director in internal and external meetings as needed, providing updates on program progress and initiatives.
- Special Projects and Duties
Perform other duties and special assignments related to the areas of responsibility, as required by the Director and CAUSES leadership.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Collaborative Work with CAUSES Staff
Work effectively and collaboratively with the Associate Deans, Dean, and other faculty, staff, and students within CAUSES and UDC as required by specific projects.
- Stakeholder Relationship Building
Support efforts to expand and solidify effective working relationships with external constituencies, program sponsors, and potential sponsors.
- Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the Center and its programs.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Master’s degree in Urban or Community Planning, Sustainability, Urban Design, Environmental Sciences, Agriculture or another relevant field to CAUSES (doctoral degree preferred).
- A minimum of four years of experience in academic, research, or administrative roles, with increasing responsibilities in program coordination, management, or supervision.

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
