Brief Description of Duties

Incumbent functions as a Staff Assistant to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of the District of Columbia’s David A. Clarke School of Law and, as such, performs the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative and clerical support to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
  • In consultation with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs develops class and exam schedules
  • Generates reports on-demand as requested by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
  • Handles travel arrangements for the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs by preparing travel request documents and completing expense vouchers
  • Updates student and contacts databases
  • Distributes, collects, and analyzes course and faculty evaluations
  • Prepares Book Adoptions requirements to meet the deadline of the university bookstore
  • Compiles data and writes reports as required by accrediting and approval bodies, including the American Bar Association and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education
  • Creates and maintains files related to academic offerings
  • Works with Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs to survey emerging teaching methods and technology to report to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Faculty
  • Assists in academic research as directed by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
  • Works with the Assistant and Associate Deans to prepare materials and provide programming for new faculty orientation in accordance with law school policy
  • Works with supervising faculty and Payroll Staff Assistant to monitor work-study hours for teaching assistants and notifies students and faculty about the remaining amount of awards
  • Assists in the coordination of law school events by scheduling rooms, obtaining food provisions. May be asked to provide additional support as needed, such as taking photographs
  • Works in coordination with the Office Manager to ensure adequate provisions of supplies and equipment are on hand in the office
  • Operates the photocopy machine and other office equipment

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field
  • Related office experience
