Brief Description of Duties

The Auxiliary Services Business Manager reports to the Deputy Chief Operating Officer or his/her designee and serves in the University of the District of Columbia’s (UDC) Office of Auxiliary Enterprises. The position works under the administrative direction of the Deputy Chief Operating Officer. The Auxiliary Services Business Manager will be responsible for monitoring all aspects of Auxiliary Services offered by the University, which includes but not limited to, Reproduction, Shuttle Bus Services, Courier Services, and Events and Space Reservations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Auxiliary Services Business Manager is responsible for the overall supervision of all Auxiliary Services, which includes but not limited to, Reproduction, Shuttle Bus Services, Courier Services, Events and Space Reservations;
  • Resolves student complaints concerning services relating to shuttle bus services and the complaints of the faculty and staff relating to Reproduction, and Events and Space Reservations;
  • Ensure that all revenue generated from all the Auxiliary Services are deposited and reported correctly and in a timely manner; Proposes policies and procedures to the Deputy Chief Operating Officer that reflect changing technology, consumer, business and organizational needs;
  • Works with stakeholders to improve all aspects of the Auxiliary Services;
  • Assist in the development of goals and objectives for auxiliary support services including long-range planning for more efficient operations;
  • Coordinate and/or perform year-end closing procedures for auxiliary services;
  • Review monthly income and expenditure reports, provide monthly analysis and implement corrective measures if needed for all Auxiliary Services;
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures pertaining to auxiliary services;
  • Develop cost analysis and make appropriate recommendations for contract amendments relative to all contracted auxiliary services;
  • Demonstrates sensitivity with confidential information as required;
  • Assists with data collection, data analysis related to auxiliary services; prepares routine and specialized reports, presentations and other related communication and documents;
  •  Adheres to deadlines in a timely and efficient manner.
  • The incumbent will supervise Auxiliary Staff members and serve as the point of contact for all contractors;
  • Coordinate evaluation process for all staff members;
  • Serve as the point of contact for the Office of Auxiliary Enterprises human resources related activities, which includes but not limited to maintaining the office organizational chart, developing position descriptions, and serving on interview panels;
  • Participate in committees and task forces;
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field from an accredited college or university preferred 
  • Five to ten years of progressive experience in business, management, or entrepreneurial ventures or professional work experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform position requirements;
  • Minimum of one year experience supervising or leading staff and or teams preferred;
  • One to three years of experience preparing business related reports and communication
  • Management experience in a college or university setting preferred

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
