Brief Description of Duties

Adjunct Nursing Faculty for the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science (RN to BSN) degree reports directly to the Program Director for the RN to BSN Program and is responsible for teaching baccalaureate level courses online. The incumbent is responsible for course management, teaching courses using the Blackboard Ultra Learning Management System. Incumbent will work closely with nursing faculty in implementing course content, including the appropriate use of classroom technology to assess student’s mastery of content. The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced course environment with student admissions every six (6) weeks.

The incumbent will work closely and cooperatively with the Dean, Associate Dean, other nursing faculty and College Staff. Incumbent must be creative and progressive, team player, work effectively, and efficiently, notify the Program Director promptly of all student-related issues. The incumbent works well under pressure of deadlines and be familiar with or become familiar with the regulations, polices and procedures as established by the University, District of Columbia Board of Nursing, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) nursing accrediting agency, and other professional nursing standards of practice.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Serves as an Adjunct (part-time) Nursing Faculty in the Online RN to BSN Program.
  • Serves as the faculty of record for the assigned online courses.
  • Works with other faculty to assess and develop instructional needs of students.
  • Evaluates student achievement in meeting clinical competencies and integration of theory related to nursing knowledge and practice.
  • Submits attendance verification, mid-term and final grades according to Nursing Program and University policies.
  • Submits student learning outcomes within one week of course completion.
  • Provides input into the Systematic Plan of Evaluation.
  • Attends the annual faculty retreat.

 

Minimum Job Requirement
 
  • Must possess or be eligible for licensure with an active and unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the District of Columbia.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MS, MA, MED) is required.
  • The position requires 3-5 years of teaching experience, of which 1-3 years must be in online teaching.
  • Previous teaching experience in an accredited RN to BSN Program required.
  • Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Certification in online teaching, preferred.

Condition of Employment: Temporary employment may be ended at anytime with or without cause.


Collective Bargaining Unit: Dependent upon certain criteria, this position may be eligible for representation and require payment of union fees through direct payroll deduction.
