Brief Description of Duties 
 

The Implicit Beliefs and Unlimited Potential (IB-UP) Lab at the University of the District of Columbia, seeks to hire a postdoctoral researcher with research interest in implicit theories of intelligence, faculty beliefs, learning contexts and the experiences, persistence and achievement of minoritized STEM students at HBCUs. The PI is looking for a collaborator in this research funded by an NSF CAREER grant and is excited to mentor and support the postdoctoral scholar in reaching their professional goals. The tentative appointment period for the position is June 2023 through September 2024, with a potential option to renew for an additional year.  The start date is flexible based on the needs of the Postdoctoral Scholar.

The postdoctoral researcher’s primary research contributions will be in assisting the PI with study recruitment, survey and interview tool development, data collection (including classroom observations), supporting/mentoring research assistants, conducting qualitative and quantitative research analysis (including data checking, cleaning and coding), writing and submitting first-author and co-authored manuscripts for publication, coordinating and supporting workshops and presenting the research to multiple stakeholders including at national conferences and through case studies and modules.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct high quality research on Learning environments and Psychosocial factors that impact educational outcomes for minorities students.
  • Work closely with graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to joint projects.
  • Participate with recruitment and leading workshops.
  • Presents and publishes research findings at conferences and peer reviewed publications.
  • Prepares progress reports for funding sources.


Minimum Job Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Psychology, STEM Education or a related area is required by the time of appointment.
  • A demonstrated ability to work/collaborate with others and work independently.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to the academic support/mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students as well as students from other groups underrepresented in STEM.

Employment Benefits: Depending upon length of appointment, selectee may or may not be eligible for full benefits such as health and life insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave and will be covered under the University of the District of Columbia's retirement plan (TIAA-CREF).
