Brief Description of Duties

We are seeking a Volunteer and Assessment Associate of the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) at the University of the District of Columbia who will report to the Data and Assessment Manager. The incumbent will plan, implements and coordinates the college’s volunteer programs and associated assessment data collection activities in collaboration with program staff in the Land-grant Centers, Institute, and academic programs of CAUSES.  The Volunteer and Assessment Associate will assist in outreach and research activities, analyze program impacts, and assess other impact data relevant to the outreach and community education work of CAUSES.

Incumbent will serve as the point of contact for volunteer programs, administering the volunteer database, entering assessment data for land-grant and academic program into required databases in preparation for data analysis of CAUSES volunteer, community outreach, and academic programmatic outcomes. Incumbent will develop a volunteer program consisting of volunteers and resources persons to support the urban land-grant programs and experiential learning activities of the College. The incumbent is expected to perform assigned duties with a high degree of independence, professionalism, initiative and efficiency, exercising good judgment and paying attention to detail. The incumbent must be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing and be pro-active in working with colleagues across the College. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the development of a robust and volunteer program for the Land-grant Center in CAUSES under the directions of the Data and Assessment Manager and in close collaboration with the Associate Deans of Operations and Land-grant Programs
  • Coordinates the development of a robust volunteer orientation program that orients volunteers to the work of CAUSES and its research and community outreach programs.
  • Serves as a point of contact for the CAUSES volunteer database ensuring currency of information for volunteers and CAUSES land-grant center and academic staff.
  • Collaborates closely with the Data and Assessment Manager, Land-grant Center Directors, Academic Department Chairs and to be knowledgeable of the unique Volunteer services needs of each Center/Department.
  • Collaborates with the Data and Assessment Manager in CAUSES to develop and disseminate qualitative and quantitative tools for data collection of Land-grant and Academic programs especially related to the capacity building and the value addition role of volunteers and resource persons.
  • Provides research assistance for CAUSES research, outreach, and community education projects as directed by the Data and Assessment Manager or the Associate Dean of Operations.
  • Serves as a source of information about CAUSES volunteer programs, research and community outreach activities for students, faculty, administrators and staff at UDC and for the community at large.
  • Prepares volunteer orientation materials, maintain regular orientation sessions, prepare descriptions of available volunteer opportunities, and work closely with the Data and Assessment Manager to collect, analyze and present program assessment data that shows the impact of the volunteer activities of CAUSES on residents, neighborhoods and organizations in the District of Columbia.
  • Coordinates program assessment related activities to ensure a high performing and mission consistent volunteer program and volunteer resourcing program and works closely with the Data and Assessment Manager and the Associate Deans of Operations and Land-grant Programs to assess program goals.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Management, the Social Sciences, or a field relevant to the work of CAUSES.
  • At minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
