Brief Description of Duties:

The Assistant/Associate Professor in Civil Engineering is a member of the Department of Civil Engineering and is responsible for teaching various courses related to Civil and Environmental Engineering. This position is expected to be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor, but those with established reputations as leaders in the field will be considered at the rank of Associate Professor. We are particularly interested in candidates with research experience in general areas of Environmental Engineering focusing on innovative approaches for treatment of water, and wastewater for the 21st Century Research areas of interest include preparing for alternative downstream water uses, innovative water and wastewater treatment technologies, determination of biotransformation pathways of contaminant removal, recovery of nutrients, energy, or energy sources; efficient energy methods for water and wastewater treatment, and the traditional requirements of removing carbon and nutrients. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in civil or environmental engineering is required. Applicants are preferred who are registered as a Professional Engineer or ability to become registered is highly desirable.

All courses are held at the UDC main campus. Incumbents must teach all assigned classes and hours as determined by semester course schedule; incumbents will be required to prepare and deliver relevant curriculum to students using a variety of teaching methods to include, but not limited to, lecture, class discussion, demonstration labs, and projects. SEAS offers ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree programs in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering and computer science, along with specialized graduate programs in all the disciplines. In the coming academic year, SEAS will be implementing a new Ph.D. program in computer science and engineering. Applications from women and minorities are encouraged.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Faculty duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate students, conducting high-quality research by collaborating closely with the department’s established teams, participating in and developing externally funded research projects, and performing academic duties, University services, and professional services.


Minimum Job Requirement:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering. We are open to outstanding candidates across the range of water, wastewater and storm water treatment expertise. Candidates with practice in wastewater engineering in the context of environmental sustainability, novel physical-chemical treatment technologies, and development of advanced biomimetic materials are encouraged to apply.
